Happy New Year! I now challenge you to Project 365!
Jan. 1st, 2008 | 07:46 pm
music: Apocalyptica feat. Corey Taylor "I'm Not Jesus"
With a little less than half a day left of the first day of 2008, I offer this challenge to you.
Document this year of your life, no matter how the year goes, in photo form. One photo a day (hence the name, 365 photos, 365 days). This means taking your camera with you everywhere you go and taking at least one picture a day.
The photos can be of anything, your trip to school/work, life at home, the first thing you see waking up, the last thing you see before crashing for the night. Unique or mundane, a full day out and about or a full day moping around at home. A photo from a moment of your life that day.
And then post them in a blog, either on Facebook, MySpace or join me at Vox.com and start a blog there, use your LiveJournal, DeadJournal, and share your work. Tell your friends. Motivate each other by leaving comments on their photos. With people actually watching your progress, you'll be less likely to fall behind in photo taking. Try different techniques, it's ok if they don't work out, you learn from it.
Post at least one photo in your desired blog of choice and, if you want, leave a link for the rest of the album from the day posted elsewhere.
For everyone that loves taking pictures, use this year to fine tune your photo taking skills and swap photo tips with other photo taking friends. If anything, you have a visual documentation of an entire year of your life.
For more information, check out the official site:
http://photojojo.com/content/tutori als/project-365-take-a-photo-a-day/
It also offers great tips on capturing unique photos.
Up for the challenge? Start a blog and tell me about it in a comment to this post. If you feel like keeping track of my progress, you can check out my official Project 365 photo blog here: http://rayvana365.vox.com
Happy photo taking and good luck!

Close Encounters of the Silent Bob Kind

music: Kevin Smith banter
Thankfully the man behind the "fat man in an overcoat" isn't as silent and had a lot to say during his Q&A and book signing at Indigo at the Eaton Center on Thursday, September 27. Including this...
Please ignore the static buzz at 3:45, I have no idea why it's there as it wasn't in the original. Stupid uploading.
What you don't see here is Kevin talking about how he's recently agreed to direct the first episode of Heroes: Origins and what he originally thought about the show. Something about wanting to do a story with the gay heroes. Which gay heroes? You know, the Japanese ones. He talked about it at this session but it was also talked about at the San Diego ComicCon which you can actually see here...
I have photos and such which I'll edit and throw up later. Kevin Smith says "hi!" to all the Thornhill and Toronto people who were too lame to show up yesterday.

Page Design Software?

Does anyone have a fairly recent version of Quark XPress or Adobe InDesign that they can send me?
As soon as my contact sends me the text and image files, I'm supposed to start layout on the Hellenic Way Newspaper, however I currently still require the proper software to do it with. Right now, all I have is Microsoft Publisher and I hate Microsoft Publisher.
So, anyone? Please, I'd be ever so greatful and I'd owe you one!

Invite: BONFIRE BASH!!!
Jul. 19th, 2007 | 05:57 pm
EVENT: Bonfire Bash!
HOST: Samantha Wu
DATE: Sunday, July 29th, 2007
TIME: 1 pm - 10 pm (and then drinks afterwards if interested)
LOCATION: Hanlan's Point Island (accessible by ferry at Queen's Quay), firepit 11
COST: $6 for ferry, $3-4 to help cover cost of permit and supplies
IN CELEBRATION OF: ...we need a reason?
RSVP: (647) 206 5540
Like last year and the year before, I host a summer bonfire bash off the beach at Hanlan's Point Island. Spend a day on the island with friends old and new by a roaring bonfire.
This party's on the island, Hanlan's Point, you get there by ferry (it'll cost you $6 to ride). Ferry location and schedules are found here: http://www.toronto.ca/parks/island/summ erschedule.htm We're at Firepit 11, near baseball, volleyball and the beach (no, not the clothing optional one).
This party starts at 1 which is when a small group of us will be down there ready to set up, if you want to come early and help with the set up, it'd be greatly appreciated so please tell me. If not, you can arrive anytime before 9 pm, when you arrive on the island, call me and I'll escort you to the fire.
This is a potluck so please contribute by bringing food, snacks and/or drinks either premade or can be cooked over a roaring fire.
Bring sunblock, bug repellant, supersoakers, music (I have speakers that can be hooked up to an iPod or portable CD player), a blanket or lawn chairs, towel, bathing suit for the beach (or not...there is a clothing optional beach on the island), yourself and a few friends.
If you are bringing a guest or two, please inform me of this so I can keep a running tally of guests attending.
Party doesn't have to end when we leave the island at 10, if you're still inclined, we can head over to a pub for drinks of the alcoholic pursuasion.
I did have to spend money on a fire permit, food and supplies, I would like everyone please contribute $3-4 for the sake of fun, that would be excellent!
Enjoy and I hope to see you all there. That's right, each and every single one of you.

The end of an era
Jun. 23rd, 2007 | 07:29 pm
location: My bedroom office
mood:
pleased
music: Activia pres Force One "Reflection"
Four years ago, on April 3 2003, I received this in the mail.
On Thursday, June 21 2007, I received this...

My supposed three years turned into four. It was a long time coming, but hell it was worth it. There were a number of times that I never thought I'd make it, especially in my final year. All the more reason why I had Cory and Jessica (who could be there with me); Tai and Adrienne, my Bitches in Crime; and most of all, Rob on my mind as I made that walk.
Feels weird now, knowing that I never have to go back to Humber, feels weird knowing that I'm an official college graduate. Technically, I could be completely done school now but I'm me and I'm not satisfied until I get everything. I'm working for a year, hopefully getting hired on at St. Joseph Media where I currently intern at Canadian Family and Gardening Life magazines as an online assistant, after my three month intern contract, before going off to Griffith University in Australia to get my BA in Photojournalism. After that, who knows what'll happen...
Humber was fun. I learned a hell of a lot and beyond what I learned to be a journalist, I also learned to always watch your back. You never know who's going to try to stab you when you're not paying attention.

Hello agents,
Just so you know, you're late. You want to keep your job, don't let that happen again. Understand?
I hope you're ready to work, your mission description follows.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it (and you better), is to assist Agent Wu, aka 008.5, in funding her spring/summer 2007(or 8) photojournalism internship in Florence, Italy.
The target amount is the equivalent in American and Canadian funds to that of 3,690 Euro.
Further information on the Italian rendez-vous destination can be found here.
This message will self destruct in ten seconds.

Again, I know I don't write in here, at all. I just come in here to read your entries, really. I write in my DeadJournal, that's pretty much, it. Anyway, since I do come in here often, I wanted something nicer to look at so I've changed my layout to make it look like my DeadJournal, especially since I didn't do anything today and had time.
So yeah, check it out, I made the header banner, spent hours on it a few days ago. I had time...
Hope you guys had a good holiday and stuff.

Wow, yeah I don't write in here. Well, other than this.
I'm writing about body modification. If you've been inked, pierced, burnt, scarred, hung by hooks, etc. or find any of the like interesting at all to possibly undergo. Comment here and tell me about it.
I'm going to try and freelance this piece around so keep in mind that this could go far.
